Integration Services

Integration servicesThe Town of Aurora offers integration services to help meet the needs of residents of all abilities.

The Town of Aurora welcomes and encourages all children with disabilities to participate in any of our programs. Every effort will be made for a child to participate at a level suitable to their abilities, support needs, program choice and facility access. Let us help you provide a positive experience for your child!

A child requires integration services if:

  • Extra support is required at school in the classroom
  • A physical, medical, developmental and/or learning disability exists that affects the safety of the child or that of other participating children
  • Extra support is needed at home for basic care such as dressing and toileting
  • The child is currently associated with a support agency or program

How do I register for integration services?

  1. Select a program for your child from our current Parks & Recreation Program Guide
  2. Contact our Community Programmer to discuss your registration plans and support options by phone at 905-727-3123 ext. 3121 or by email to fdemarco@aurora.ca
  3. Register for your program
  4. Our Community Programmer will confirm your registration and support requirements prior to your chosen program session.

Please be aware that we will do our best to provide your child with the support they require; however, it is not guaranteed that we will be able to secure a Leisure Buddy Volunteer or Integration Counsellor for the specific program you request.

Aquatic Programs

The Town of Aurora Aquatics Department is committed to promoting the dignity, independence and potential of persons with disabilities, through individualized instruction and integrated learn to swim programs. Our learn to swim program is taught by qualified Red Cross Water Safety Instructors who have volunteered and have past experience working with participants with disabilities.

A 30 minute class is offered at both the Aurora Family Leisure Complex and the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex pool. Class ratio is 1:1 and cost $8.00 per class.

For enquires, please contact Loriann Ierullo, Aquatic Supervisor by phone at 905-726-4763 or by email to lierullo@aurora.ca.

Mediator Cards
In order to better accommodate our regular customers attending with a Mediator, we now have Mediator Cards. Individuals in need of support to participate in our drop-in programs such as recreational swimming or Aquafitness can take advantage of this card.

If the mediator’s purpose for attending is to support a customer with a disability, the mediator is able to attend at no-charge. The Mediator Card is to assist and streamline the admission process and belongs to the customer with a disability requiring support.

For enquires regarding the Mediator Card, please contact Loriann Ierullo, Aquatic Supervisor by phone at 905-726-4763 or by email to lierullo@aurora.ca.
