2010 Budget
Approved 2010 Budget
Aurora's Budget Committee approved a $15.4 million Capital Budget and a $42.6 million Operating Budget at Council on Tuesday January 26, 2010.
This budget increases the Town's portion of a resident's tax bill by 2.82 percent for 2010. For a home assessed at $300,000, the increase is equal to $30.87 annually. The Region and School tax rate for 2010 have yet to be finalized however; they are both expected to remain unchanged. Should this occur, the combined impact to the total tax bill would be 0.92 percent tax increase, with the same cost of 8 cents per day or $30.87 per year.
Projects in the 2010 Capital Budget include:
- A renewed commitment to the maintenance of existing Town infrastructure i.e. roads reconstruction, rehabilitation of existing park structures, streetlight replacement
- Retrofits to Town facilities to improve energy conservation and management
- Increased contribution to Aurora's Arboretum to assist with the development of greenspace within the Town
Projects in the 2010 Operating Budget include:
- The implementation of a reorganization of departments to improve service to residents
- Investment in improved parks maintenance
- Expansion of the successful Aurora Farmer's Market
- Financial support to the Aurora Public Library by 5.52 percent to meet the needs of our community
- Increased financial support to Fire Services by 2.86 percent to meet staffing and equipment requirements
The focus for 2010 was a budget that not only provides funding for immediate Town needs but also lays the groundwork for the Town’s future needs.
