Town of Aurora Sesquicentennial

Aurora – Celebrating 150 years
As Aurora celebrates its sesquicentennial, the community is reminded of the continuous symbols of our past and present. This is visible where you see preserved heritage homes and buildings sharing the same view with modern architecture. The elaborate and rich roots of Aurora’s history shaped and created the path for the prosperous community just a few minutes away from the largest city in Canada. The Aurora 150 is a celebration commemorating this milestone but also an opportunity to remind Aurorans why we are “in good company.”
The Town celebrated its official birthday on Sunday, February 3 with a Mayor’s Levee in Aurora Town Park. The official Aurora 150 flag was unveiled and will be flown for the rest of the year at Town Hall. Congratulations to Victoria Harris whose flag design was selected by the Aurora 150 Committee.
The second event, the Aurora 150 Tattoo on May 5 was a great success, featuring lunch with the Queens York Rangers, a kid-friendly “mudder”, on-site military displays as well as an original Tattoo performance, including a combination of marching bands, pipes and drums corps and highland dancers.
Stay tuned for other great events, including Canada Day weekend festivities and a performance by Canadian rock legends Lighthouse.
Share your stories and memories of Aurora by signing the Town’s memory book at the following locations:
• The Aurora Seniors’ Centre, 90 John West Way
• Aurora Town Hall, 100 John West Way
• Aurora Public Library, 15145 Yonge Street
The books will be placed in a time capsule at the end of the Aurora 150th Birthday celebrations. Thank you!
